Carter's program to conserve energy

Dear Mr. Carter,

I disagree strongly with your new energy plan. I believe that when you live in America you are free to live the way you want to live. People should not have restrictions on how their lives just because our government can not control our economy and our oil supply. Yes, we are all a team in this country, but what is it that you are doing besides these restrictions to solve this problem? I think the government should be making changes before you try and make the whole American public change their way of living.

Thank you,
Alex Grimes

Are men and women equal in 2010?

Men and women have never been equal. Over the years people would say that women are now equal to men, but I disagree. In the business world, men doing the same job as women are still getting paid more than the women. Also in professional sports, men are paid more than women. This is because more people watch men's sports, but why do they? Something that I think that has slowly changed over time is the idea of a house wife. More women are working full time like their husbands, but in most houses, the wife still cooks dinner, does Landry, and takes care of the children's needs. This is not true in all house, but I have found in the majority of houses this is true. So, by 2010 to say women and men are equal I would not agree. Things have gotten better for the equality of women to men, but they are not equal what so ever.

JFK Field Trip Reflection

1. Three things I learned about JFK on the field trip to his library that I did not know before were, JFK did a lot of things for handy cap children. Also, JFK was very into sailing and that is way he joined the Navy. Lastly, JFK had eight siblings, one being Robert Kennedy.

2. The elements of the trip I found most interesting were the space station room. I thought the space suit displayed was extremely fascinating. Another element of the trip that i found interesting was the room about Jackie Kennedy. She was a fashion icon of her time and was just as famous as JFK.

3. I think that the field trip could be improved if the classroom portion of the trip was eliminated. Also, i think if one of the instructors showed us around the museum and taught us as we saw things it would have been a better learning experience. Something that i wish we had learned more about was who JFK really was outside his presidency.

4. JFK is known as one of the best presidents in all of American history. Everyone has their own opinions on JFK, but i agree with the majority. I think that JFK was one of the best American presidents. He is so well-known because he broke the mold on what a normal president was. JFK was youthful, good looking, and a family man. I think that is why so many Americans loved JFK. Also, JFK had great ideas for the future. Some of these ideas were getting onto the moon, helping the poor, environmental conservation, and equality for women and African Americans. JFK never got to follow through with these ideas because he was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald, the ideas stuck with president Johnson. Johnson was able to follow through with the ideas and plans that JFK came up with. If JFK was not as famous intelligent as he was, these ideas he had may have never been accomplished. We could still be living in a segregated world.

The Butter Battle Book

My ending of The Butter Battle Book would be that nether the Yooks nor the Zooks drop their Bitsy Big-Boy Boomeroo Bomb. They discover that it would be better to live together in one land, than only one species live alone on the other hand. If one of them dropped the bomb, they would feel very guitly about killing so many innocent people. They also, discovered that it does not matter whether you eat your bread with the butter side up or down, all that matters is if you do not have a frown.

Depression 2009

1. I don't think that the country could go through another depression because we have learned from history. The government has put in place checks and balances to watch the banks so that we don't repeat a depression.

2. The types of sacrifices that my family and I would have to make during a depression would be any kind of luxury. This could be anything from new clothes for school, cable, and a cell phone. Money would be very tight.

3. The author describes a 21th century depression as a domestic sphere. He says people would leave their houses much less and they do now. Also, the author says that the depression would cause more suicides and domestic violence, but divorce rates would go lower because families couldn't afford a separation.

Simpsons verse the 18th Amendment

This famous Simpson episode portrayed the 1920's Prohibition Act very well. They did this by first, showing that drinking causes violence. This was important because in the 1920's that was a factor to why the government decided to pass the Prohibition Act. Another example from the 1920's they used was speakeasies and the mafia supplying the speakeasies with liquor. This was important because this was on of the main reasons why the Prohibition act failed. These were just two of the many examples the producers put throughout the episode that were examples straight from the 1920's. I think throughout the episode they used a lot of fictional comedy, but gave the same realistic facts. I enjoyed this episode because it was a mix of comedy and historical facts.

I think to make the episode more historically accurate the producers could have added something about the racial tensions going on throughout the country in the 1920's. Prohibition and racial tensions were the two main problems in the 1920's. The producers could have had a "whites only" speakeasies, or show that the over population in Springfield was a problem and that people started forming groups against certain races(mostly blacks).
